Minimum Requirements:

Valid Texas driver’s license (Class C)

Must be 18 years of age

Two years of mechanic experience or a mechanic Automotive or Diesel degree/certificate

Primary Purpose:

Perform minor mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Under the guidance of the lead mechanic, work on assigned projects and follow established procedures to keep district transportation running safely.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical issues in vehicles.

Knowledge of vehicle preventive maintenance (changing oil/filters, rotating and balancing tires, checking fluid levels, inspecting hoses, belts, lamps, and mirrors).

Basic skills in welding and minor vehicle body work.

Ability to operate shop tools, equipment, and machinery following safety procedures.

Ability to drive and operate school buses and other district vehicles as needed.

Strong record-keeping skills for tracking time, materials, and vehicle services.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with district staff.
